Special Permit States

**Although you may have all 48 states on your tag, there are certain states that require you to obtain a "Special Permit," in order to run in their states.**

  • Kentucky - Required if over 60,000 lbs and you MUST file quarterly fuel taxes. The permit for their state has no expiration, however, if you do not file quarterly fuel taxes, they will revoke your permit and it is very costly to reinstate. They will request a $50.00 reinstatement fee and a $1,000.00 surety bond.
  • New York - Required if you are running over 18,000 lbs. You do have to file quarterly fuel taxes for their state and their permit expires every 3 years.
  • New Mexico - Required if you are running over 26,000 lbs. You must file quarterly fuel taxes and their permit is yearly.
  • Oregon - You can purchase a yearly permit or pay at point of entry. If you pay at point of entry, you are not required to file fuel taxes. If you purchase a yearly permit, you must file "monthly" fuel taxes. Oregon state law requires that carriers file a bond with the Department of Transportation, as a guarantee of payment of fees and taxes.
